Causation applied to choice is a label for a more complex set of facts not made explicit without analysis. Causes of choice are identified in order to act upon them to get desired effects in pursuit of goals, same as all goal directed action. Intelligence expands knowledge. Randomness inherent in the method of empirical reasoning, by man or machine, not just a byproduct of biological brains, render prior causes not useful for accomplishing ends, having unpredictable effects, so the mind itself is the relevant cause of choices to which action is directed.
